Privacy policy

Last updated 3 October 2026. This describes what the site does today, not what it might do later. If that changes, this page changes first and the date above moves.

The short version

There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising on this site at the moment. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your browser. One page has a form on it, for sending in a card statement descriptor to research, and that is the only thing here that collects anything at all. It does not ask who you are.

The calculators run on your own device

When you change a salary, a filing status or a deduction, the arithmetic happens in your browser. The figure is not sent anywhere, not stored anywhere, and nobody here sees it. You can confirm that by turning off your network connection after the page loads: the calculators keep working.

No cookies, no tracking, no analytics

The site sets no cookies. It uses no local storage. It loads no analytics script, no tag manager, no advertising pixel and no social media widget. There is no third party receiving anything about your visit, because there is no third party script on any page.

The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font service, which is a small thing but it means loading a page does not announce your visit to anyone else.

What the hosting provider sees

Pages are served by a hosting provider, and like any web host it processes the technical details a request necessarily contains: the page asked for, the time, an IP address, and the browser's user agent string. That is how any website on the internet works. It is used to serve the page and to keep the service running, and this site does not pull that data into anything of its own, build profiles from it, or combine it with anything else.

Links to other sites

Every figure on this site links to the state or federal document it came from. Those are other people's websites with their own privacy practices, and following a link takes you to them. This policy covers this site only.

If you email us

If you write to the address on the contact page, we have your message and your email address, because that is what an email is. It is used to reply to you and, where you are reporting an error in a figure, to check and fix it. It is not added to a mailing list and not passed to anyone else.

If you submit a descriptor

One page carries a form for sending in a statement descriptor you could not identify. It asks for two things: the descriptor itself, and what it turned out to be if you found out. It does not ask for your name or your email address and there is no field for either, so there is no way to reply to you and no list to add you to.

What is stored is those two fields, the date, and a one way hash of your network address. The address itself is never written down. The hash exists so that one person cannot send a thousand submissions, it is salted with a secret that is not in the published code, and it cannot be turned back into an address. If that secret is ever missing the form refuses the submission rather than storing something weaker.

Nothing you submit is published. Not after review, not as a quotation, not attributed to you. A submission is a note telling us which descriptor is worth researching; anything that ends up on the site is then read at the payment processor's own documentation and written in our words with that citation. The site that serves you pages never reads the table those submissions go into, which is why this is a property of how it is built rather than a promise about how we behave.

Advertising, when it arrives

This site is intended to carry advertising, and it does not yet. That matters here because advertising is the thing that would change this page substantially: ad networks generally set cookies or use similar identifiers, and they collect data under their own policies rather than this one.

Nothing of that kind is running today. Before any of it is introduced, this page will be rewritten to say plainly what is being used, what it collects and how to opt out where that is offered. The build refuses to publish a third party script while this page still claims there are none, so the two cannot drift apart quietly.

Children

This is a reference site about tax arithmetic and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect anything from anybody, of any age.

Your rights

Rights to see, correct or delete personal data only bite where there is personal data to act on. The calculators hold none. The two things that do exist are an email you chose to send, and a descriptor you chose to submit, and both can be deleted on request. A submitted descriptor is stored with a one way hash of a network address rather than the address, so there is nothing in that record that identifies you and nothing that could be returned to you if you asked.
